I encourage you to stay under the duvet this wintry week whilst we report on Sydney fashion. On Thursday, David Jones previewed the spring-summer 2019 season, ‘On the Bright Side‘. Presenting a selection of the best of David Jones’ Australian and international collections, David Jones Ambassadors Jessica Gomes and Victoria Lee were joined by a stellar line-up of talent, including David Jones’ SS19 Face of Menswear Tom Derickx and star of the On the Bright Sidecampaign, Dilone.

The anticipated event commenced late morning at the iconic Sydney Opera House, David Jones’ SS19 Season Preview captured the essence of a new spring summer season underpinned by optimism, warmth and joy. Viewed from above, John Olsen’s seminal muralSalute to FiveBells and the distinctive royal purple carpet set a spectacular stage for 23 striking international and Australian looks, and a performance by breakout talent and Aria nominee Odette.

A noted addition to the event was David Jones’ signature hounds tooth, first introduced in achromatic in the late 1950s and reinstated for On the Bright Side in neon pink, blue, green and yellow. Fashion featured in the preview showcased the growing collection of exclusive Australian and international brands for the 181-year-old department store. Among the pieces featured, new international brands joining David Jones were debuted including Carolina Herrera, Toni Maticevski, Roksanda and Johanna Ortiz, alongside celebrated Australian designers such as Carla Zampatti, Ginger & Smart and Bianca Spender. Favourites appearing on the catwalk included Agi Akur, Roberta Pecoraro, Aleyna Fitzgerald, Jack Vanderhart, and co-star of the On the Bright Side campaign Emma Boyd. A VIP, celebrity and designer guest list attended the bi-annual event including: Rosie Tupper and Sam Margin, Jordan Stenmark, Nadia Fairfax, Yan Yan Chan, Camille Ormandy and Carmen Hamilton.

The fashion in Sydney may be optimistic, warm and joyful but the weather is certainly far from that. At this stage Melbourne fashionistas I advise you to stick to your faux furs and gumboots.
